Sadly it seems the last is not to be. Hopes that the space was being renovated allowing Tinta y to reopen have all but been dashed when it was announced that their lease had not been renewed and Tinta y have moved to a new location in Coral Gables.
Look what’s finally going back up. Rockne Krebs’ “The Miami Line“ art/light project. Crews were busy over the weekend working on the Metrorail tracks. A part of the Miami Line is back up, over the river on the East side. It may take a few more weekends to complete the work. Check it out next time you’re in Brickell.

Even when speeding north on I-95, it was always hard to miss. The multicolored lights glimmered against the nightscape, reflecting on the dark waters of the Miami River like watercolors swirling on a canvas. When the Metrorail rushed above, it almost seemed like it was floating on a Technicolor brick road that cut through the skyline. The rainbow of lights that adorned the Metrorail line became a visual representation of the city. Formally called The Miami Line, the light installation was designed and debuted in 1984 by pioneering light artist Rockne Krebs as part of Miami-Dade’s Art in Public Places program.
Friend’s Market & Bistro opened in the MyBrickell condo on SE 6th St beneath the Metromover rail. I’m always looking, hoping, begging for a new breakfast place in Miami so this is great news. Open from 7am till late, they also have burgers, sandwiches, wraps, pizza… Anyone try this one yet?
Everything’s going grey in Miami, (yes you Brickell City Center!) Maybe bright colors and pastels are too 80’s, Miami Vice Miami. But I don’t think I like this new trend with everything going grey, do you?
This sign recently went up in the space formerly occupied by Venezuelan restaurant El Arepazo The awnings have come down, the building looks like it’s being readied for renovation or demolition. Personally I’d like to see it come down and create a grand lawn or terraced plaza entry for the Chase building from 8th Street.
You lift bro? Check it out, finally something happening in the Mint at Riverfront.
Society Barbell & Fitness has taken over the largest commercial space in The Mint along the riverwalk. It’s about time, commercial space in the Riverfront complex has been seriously lacking, and in the Mint completely empty for years. Looks like a pretty hardcore weight training and CrossFit facility. But what a great view to have for it.
Looks like someone came up with a creative way to make use of that ginormous blank wall that is now the Rise Condo tower at Brickell City Centre. At night anyway. By day it’s still a big vast expanse of dark grey nothing. I haven’t been to Blackbird Ordinary in a while, time to stop in for happy hour at least. I remember a great handcrafted specialty cocktail menu.
